Director of Azerbaijan`s Seismological Service Gurban Yetirmishli and
representative of the earthquake research department of the Service
Murad Tahirov attended Observatories and Research Facilities for
European Seismology (ORFEUS) Coordination Workshop in Lisbon, Portugal
on May 25-28.
The aim of the workshop was to discuss challenges
involved in integrating and coordinating seismological observations at
the seafloor and on land; addressing both the technological, organizational and interpretational aspects; specifically, promoting
common strategies to deploy seismological instrumentation, organize its
data management and interpretation, from temporary and permanent
stations, for both seafloor and land-based observatories in the
European-Mediterranean area and its sea and ocean surroundings.
Yetirmishli made a report on development of seismology and research works in Azerbaijan.
In the event Azerbaijan came up with an initiative to host the organization`s meeting in 2013.
