Baku hosts international conference on "Development of civil society in Azerbaijan"

By the organization of Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD), EU office in Baku and Management Center of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus today held an international conference on "Development of civil society in Azerbaijan" in Baku.

Delivering speech at the event, Chairman of the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, MP Azay Guliyev said that all activities undertaken in the country in connection with the civil society were very important.

To him, Azerbaijan has chosen the path of political integration in Europe and continues to move along this path.

MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev noted that the structures of civil society in Azerbaijan had become a great power, and compared to the political parties had greater development: “In terms of promoting European values in Azerbaijan, civil society organizations operating in the country, carried out some work. In any country, to create a civil society requires certain conditions and support”.

Program manager of EU office in Baku Fuad Huseynov noted that since 2007 up to this day, the EU allocated 5 mln euro to the projects realized for development of civil society in Azerbaijan. 20 different projects were implemented during this period.
