
Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, director of the theater "Yug" Vagif Ibrahimoglu died on May 12. The prominent producer died at his home after a long severe illness. He underwent a cure at a clinic at the Gazi University in Ankara and on January 20 of this year returned home.
Vagif Ibrahimoglu, was born on October 18, in 1949, in Mardakan settlement of Baku. In 1967 he entered the Azerbaijan State Institute of Culture and Art (now University), the Faculty of acting and drama. In 1972 he graduated this university. From 1973 to 1976 he worked as an actor in Azerbaijan State Theater for Young Spectators. In the 1976-1979 years he worked as artistic director at the Studio Theater at the Experimental Theater Society, and in 1979-1982 years in the Theater of Education, and in 1982-1989 years as a chief director of Azerbaijan State Musical Comedy Theater.
He staged at the National Academic Drama Theater of Azerbaijan, at Ankara and Bursa theaters of Turkey, at Ugala theater of Estonia. Since 1989, he served as artistic director of Theater of “YUG” (in 1992 "YUG" Theater-Studio got the status of state). Vagif Ibrahimoglu was the chief director at the State Theater "YUG".
On May 22, 1991 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan. He was a winner of the prize of the Union of theatrical figures of Azerbaijan "Golden Dervish." In 2006 he became an honorary fellow of the Azerbaijani President.
