Shared memorial day is time of celebration and tragic remembrance for Azerbaijan and Russia

The shared Memorial Day is a celebratory day, and also a time for tragic remembrance for Azerbaijan and Russia, the Deputy Dean of the History Department of Moscow State University, Professor at the Russian State Humanitarian University and Trend Expert Council Member Alexei Vlasov said.

A creative group of students of the History Faculty at the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University arrived in Azerbaijan upon Heydar Aliyev Foundation ’s invitation to participate in the celebrations on the 66th anniversary of victory over fascism - May 9. The delegation includes 16 students, Alexei Vlasov and Caucasian Department Head from the Russian State University for the Humanities Ismayil Agakishiyev .

"The participation of student- historians in victory day festivities in Baku is some kind of a lesson of internationalism and friendship. We must not only congratulate the veterans, but also demonstrate that the new generation of Azerbaijanis and Russians still friendly perceive each other and are ready to celebrate the holiday together, making efforts to maintain a common historical memory," he said.

The delegation visited the Alley of Honor and laid flowers at the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and Hazi Aslanov, two-time hero of the Soviet Union.

As a part of the celebrations, students will speak at the event at the Russian Embassy and attend a concert for WWII veterans organized under the patronage of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
