Large multinational projects in Azerbaijan have increased the volume of cargo transportation, which, in turn, increases the likelihood of drug transit through the country, Deputy Prime Minister and State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking Chairman Ali Hasanov said on Thursday.
The commission carries out regular discussions with law enforcement authorities and gives the appropriate instructions.
"The main problem is transportation via Azerbaijan as a transit country for drugs from Afghanistan," Hasanov said.
Preventive work carried out in recent years in Azerbaijan allowed to achieve a noticeable decline in illicit drugs and their sale, he added.
