Azerbaijani teachers to face age qualification

Working teachers can face an age qualification after the fulfillment of an order on elaboration of the concept determining state-funded education and healthcare establishments as a part of public service, rector of the Baku State University Abel Maharramov said.

He said preparation for fulfillment of the presidential order is underway and a large commission will work on this project. "It will promote the raise of salary of teachers and improvement of their social welfare after the retirement. Today if the university professors retire, they receive 150-200 AZN pension, which can not meet their needs. But the age qualification 65-70 will allow them to retire after reaching a certain age. It will not create any problem".

Maharramov didn’t rule out exceptions. "It is possible to reach contract with the creative professors to prolong their working term. Despite the certain age, if the professor has very intensive activity, his/her contract can be prolonged".
