Security level in Baku metro does not require entering intensified alert level

The Baku Metro security is raised to a high-level alert, though there is no necessity for intensifying of the alert level, Baku Metro spokesperson Nazaket Tanriverdieva said commenting, on the previous day’s Minsk metro explosion.

The explosion at the Oktyabrskaya station of the Minsk metro took place on Monday night when the metro was full of passengers. According to recent reports, 12 people died, 149 injured, 22 of which are in critical condition.

Belarusian Prosecutor General qualified the event as a terrorist act. President Alexander Lukashenko said at an emergency meeting that the explosion could be organized by those both from abroad and inside the country, and instructed the enforcement of "extremely strengthened" security measures in the republic. The Head of State demanded that the perpetrators responsible for the blast be found.

Tanriverdieva said that security cameras are installed at stations and trains of the Baku Metro. Also police are on duty at the entrances and inside of the stations.

"The control and enforcement of security at a high level is part of everyday work for Baku Metro; therefore there is no need to enter a more intensified alert level," she said.

Baku Metro has been in operation since 1967 and has 22 stations.
