Minister: First congress of Global Youth Movement in Baku will contribute peace

The first congress of the Global Youth Movement for the Alliance of Civilizations, which started in Baku on Saturday, will help young people around the world to implement initiatives aimed at establishing peace, said Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov.

"This meeting will give direction to energetic actions of young people around the world so that the initiatives would develop into activities for the benefit of a world safer for all," the Minister said at the event.

He expressed hope that young people evaluate the seriousness of the current situation in the world and understands the need for immediate action, preventing extremism.

"As a multicultural, multiethnic and multi-confessional state, Azerbaijan for its part is ready to share experiences on how to peacefully co-exist in such variety," said Rahimov.

The first Congress of the Global Youth Movement for the Alliance of Civilizations started in Baku on Saturday. The congress will focus on strengthening relationships between youth organizations, supporting initiatives of youth participation in the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
