Azerbaijan to be represented at WHO Executive Committee next 3 years

Azerbaijan will be represented at the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization in 2012-2015, press service of the Health Ministry of Azerbaijan reported.

Estonia, Germany, France and Serbia will end their membership at the WHO Executive Committee in May, 2012. Azerbaijan, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovakia, Lithuania and Belgium were nominated to these vacancies from the European region.

Azerbaijan’s nomination for the WHO Executive Committee from 2012 was confirmed at the third meeting of the WHO’s 18th Standing Committee for Europe in Copenhagen on March 30-31, 2011.

It is first case in the WHO’s history that the country, being the Executive Committee’s member in the past, was nominated again. Azerbaijan was a member of the WHO Executive Committee in 2005-2008, joined the Standing Committee for the period from 2009 to 2012. Azerbaijan will join the Executive Committee in 2012-2015 too.
