Climate Change issues were discussed in Azerbaijan

AIM has been implementing EED (Germany) and Oxfam-Novib (the Netherlands) funded project “Adaptation to climate changes and mitigation of its negative impacts via creating sustainable farming systems” in the central part of the republic since last year. The main objective of the project implemented in the regions of Aghjabedi, Beylagan, Zardab, Barda and Terter is to achieve the improvement of the livelihoods of farmer families via establishing sustainable farming systems through rehabilitating the wastelands.

As continuation of the implemented activities, AIM has organized public consultations with representatives of state structures, public institutions and farmers from five regions. The ecological problems of the central area were discussed in the event and suggestions were given on developing strategic paper for joining efforts in the area of environment protection.

It was mentioned that the partnership with state and public bodies are of great importance from the point of exploring environmental problems of the central area and of determining the targets. For this reason, working group including the representatives of executive and municipality bodies, international and local organizations operating in the area, farmers and agricultural specialists was established.

The event participants stated that not only the related bodies but also each institution, as well as each resident living here should play a role in the effective management of wastes, pastures, soil fertility and water resources, in restoration of forests.

The farmers, agricultural specialists and extension agents, executive and municipality committees from the regions of the Central Aran, the regional agents of the Ministry of Economical Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the representatives of the international and local organizations participated at the event.
