Azerbaijan's general seismologist doesn’t exclude connection of mud volcano erupted in Gobustan with quakes

"The occurrence of 4 earthquakes in Shirvan city is not so alarming", director of the Republican Seismological Service Center Gurban Yetirmishli said APA.

According to him, the occurred quakes were felt maximum till 3.5-magnitude: "Such weak shocks are good indeed, they prevent more strong shocks".

Yetirmishli doesn’t exclude the tie of eruption of mud volcano with today’s quakes:

"There is 35-40km distance between those territories. Principally the mud volcanoes have connections with quakes. Many volcanoes aroused in the Pacific Ocean after the earthquake occurred in Japan. The volcanoes can wake up before or after the quakes. During the preparation period to the quake there can pressing inside the earth, and it influences the wake-up of the volcanoes"
