More than 30 000 people without documents live in Azerbaijan

On March 9, Public Union "Azerbaijani Migration Center" held a press conference on issues that cause growth in the number of persons living in Azerbaijan without citizenship and documents.

The conference was held within "joint struggle against labor exploitation".

The union head Alovset Agayev said that last year the organization received 1023 personal and 1119 phone calls from persons without citizenship mostly from natives of Armenia, Turkey, Georgia and the Russian Federation.

According to him, Azerbaijan currently hosts more than 30 thousand people without documents or with invalid documents, also those with an uncertain legal status. Most of them do not have documents because of illegal and arbitrary decisions of Internal Affairs and the State Migration Service.
