17 May 2010 [15:50] - TODAY.AZ
Rescue operations along the Kura river are underway in accordance with the Head of State's instructions, Chairman of Melioration and Water Management OSC Ahmad Ahmadzade told journalists.

“A level of water in Kur river is expected to rise by over 100 cubic meters. Melting snow and rains caused the river to overflow.”

Ahmadzade said Emergency service workers managed to build a new dam to prevent the flood.
He said Sarisu Lake in Saatli region is considered a regulator for Kur river. As the level of Kur surges, part of water is directed to the Lake.

“Now level of the Lake is very high and it represents a threat to surrounding territories. But there is no threat”

The teams of Ministries of Emergency Situations, Internal Affairs and Melioration and Water Management OSC are on the spot to continue rescue efforts.
