The Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations expressed its attitude towards Iranian religious figure's Ayatollah Nasir Makarim Shirazi's statements on the demolition of mosques in Azerbaijan. The committee considers Shirazi's statements as unfounded arguments, the state committee told Trend.
"Such kind of statements that inappropriate to religious figures and bear insulting are unacceptable," committee reported.
Recently Shirazi condemned the demolition of mosques in Azerbaijan and warned the authorities that if the destruction of mosques will continue, he will give a fatwa on resistance and declare martyrs all who die this way. Decisions on the demolition of illegal structures built under the guise of mosques have been made by the courts, the committee said.
"It is unacceptable to give a political coloring to these decisions. Everyone should know and accept that Azerbaijan is a secular state and is controlled by secular laws. Moreover, one should not allow the idea of exporting state-religious relations of other countries in Azerbaijan. Splitting of Azerbaijani Muslims in general, all the Muslims into sects, divides them, in other words, Muslims oppose each other, and this gives no respect to anyone, the report says.
