UNICEF regional director meets Azerbaijani ombudsperson

The human rights commissioner informed the UNICEF official about the activities of the Ombudsman office and its efforts towards strengthening the protection of children's rights.

Suleymanova said her office is “closely” cooperating with the UNICEF representation in the country. She noted the Ombudsman office is a member of the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) and is “actively” involved in the organization's events.

Suleymanova stated that experts are giving trainings for children at Baku`s three pilot schools on protection of children's rights. The UNICEF's Regional Director praised Ombudsman office's work towards strengthening the protection of children's rights.

Allen said UNICEF's representation in Azerbaijan and the Ombudsman office signed a joint action plan on protection of children's rights for 2010.
