Baku renames Azizbayov district

The Azerbaijani parliament gave permission to rename the Azizbayov district of Azerbaijan.
"Based on the parliament's decision the Azizbayov district will be renamed to Khazar district," Parliamentary Regional Affairs Committee Head Arif Rahimzade said today.

According to Rahimzade, a project to rename the Azizbayov district was discussed at parliamentary toponyms commission's meeting April 26.

"The Azizbayov district executive power' head appealed to the committee on behalf of the district's residents to rename the district. The appeal proposed to change the title to Khazar. The Toponyms Commission has carefully examined the proposal and considers it appropriate to change the name of the district," Rahimzade said.

Rahimzade said the committee's meeting held April 27, approved the appeal. The project to rename the area was put forward for discussion in the parliament. The committee adopted a project for renaming the Yenikend village of the Salyan region to  Ashaghi Khalaj.
