The Azerbaijani Labor and Social Protection Ministry intends to build a veterans' apartment building under the National Programme for Social security of GPW veterans, Deputy Minister Natig Mammadov said.

"The ministry intends to build a 9-storey 81-apartment building," he said.

Mammadov said the ministry has already provided 300 cars to veterans and intends to continue its activities under the national program.

"There are about 4,000 veterans in Azerbaijan and the program covers each of them", Mam,adov added.

Mammadov noted that under President Ilham Aliyev's order the veterans were granted 500 manat in one-time financial assistance on ($600), although in one of the major CIS countries - Kazakhstan, this figure amounted to $360. This indicates the increased attention of the Azerbaijani government to the veterans.

The official exchange rate is 0.8035 manat to $1 May 7.
