Azerbaijani population to drink Caspian Sea water?

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is carrying out pilot projects for desalination of the Caspian water to make it useful for drink, said the Deputy Minister Novruz Guliyev.

He said they were constructing special installation to desalinate water. “The State Oil Company constructed such installation on Chilov Island. Population and industrial enterprises will use that. We are expected to construct such installations in other places, mostly in the territories faced with the problems of fresh water and melioration”.

Guliyev said, that desalinated Caspian water would be ecologically clean.

“All relevant organizations will express their opinions and after that the population will be allowed to use this water. If it doesn’t meet the standards we will not recommend it to the people”.
