“Ash of a volcanic eruption in Iceland has already reached the territory of Azerbaijan,” said Nazim Huseynov, Head of the Aviation Meteorological Service at Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and member of the American Meteorological Society and the Russian Geographic Society.

"International centers for notice of volcanic ash from London and Toulouse have warned Aviation Meteorological Services on movement of the volcanic ash towards our region,” Huseynov said.

“Russian hydrometeorological services have provided a map with the trajectory of movement of volcanic ash from Iceland to Azerbaijan. A special storm warning for planes departing from Baku and arriving in our capital has been issued.”

“However, volcanuic ash has reached Azerbaijan in slight volume and poses no serious danger at the moment. North, north-west wind and air flows from Scandinavia moved the volcanic ash that had accumulated over the territory of Iceland to Turkey, Georgia, to the south of Russia, and then, as shown in figures, to the northern regions of Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea,” he added.
