
The Holy Fire will be delivered to Baku prior to worship in the Holy Myrrhbearers Cathedral in Baku Reverend by Alexander, Bishop of Baku and the Caspian Sea Apr.13 at 9:00 am, the Baku patriarchal administration reported.
During the liturgy, the faithful will be able to kindle the candles from the holy fire and to bring holiness in their homes, the source reported.
The bishop brought the Holy Fire to Azerbaijan Apr.12.
The first, who met the shrine, were residents of the Khachmaz region, where the Orthodox Church in honor of Nicholas is located. Then the Holy Fire will be delivered in Sumgait, where there is also an Orthodox church.
Bishop Alexander brought the Holy Fire from the Republic of Dagestan, whose territory is part of the Baku-Caspian diocese. Each year, parishioners of Dagestan participate in worship of Holy Saturday in Jerusalem at Church of the Holy Sepulchre and deliver the Holy Fire in the diocese.
The Holy Fire is described by Christians as a miracle that occurs every year at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, the day preceding Orthodox Easter. The first mention of the descent of the Holy Fire on the eve of the Resurrection of Christ dates back to 4th century. The phenomenon, which occurs once a year, has not yet been explained by science. Christians believe in the miraculous, divine origin of the flame.
