Iranian citizen arrested in Azerbaijan for smuggling of psychotropic substances

Iranian citizen was arrested in Azerbaijan for the smuggling of psychotropic substances. He used the territory of Armenia as a transit, the State Customs Committee chairman Aydin Aliyev said in an interview with media today.

"Methamphetamine was seized from Iran's citizen Azimi Murtuza Mustafa during an operation conducted by employees of the State Customs Committee. He was going to fly by Baku - Moscow - Bangkok. In his testimony, he admitted that before this substance was transported through the territory of Armenia", Aliyev said.

According to Mustafa, it was the first attempt to use the territory of Azerbaijan for the transport of psychotropic substances.

About 1,500 grams of a psychotropic substance, methamphetamine was seized from Iran's citizen Mustafa at the international airport named after Heydar Aliyev.

The criminal tried to deliver drugs into the Kingdom of Thailand via flight Baku - Moscow - Bangkok.

Chairman of the committee said that Methamphetamine is a psychotropic substance having a very strong influence, which is used to obtain synthetic drugs.
