Azerbaijani Traffic police speaks about accidents in Baku

Accidents increased in Baku in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period of 2009.
82 people died and 240 were injured in 238 accidents from January to March in Baku, Baku State Traffic Police Official Jamshid Hanifayev said.

In the first three months of 2010, accidents increased in Baku by 2.6%, fatalities by 6% and the number of victims by 32% compared to the same period of 2009. A total of 144 automobile-pedestrian accidents occurred.

In the first quarter of 2010, the Baku Traffic Police punished 2,066 drivers for driving under alcohol influence.

In terms of administrative penalities, 380 drivers were punished for creating emergency conditions, 380 for insubordination, 3,386 for running a red light, 186 for driving without a license plate and 1,330 for using car curtains and tinted windows.

During the reporting period, 4,004 pedestrians were fined for violating traffic regulations.
