A workshop on protection of Internally Displaced Persons to take place in Azerbaijan

The event will start at 9:00 hour in Guba Ballroom at Hyatt Hotels, Baku. All media representatives are invited to the opening of the event.

The Workshop is intended to present for discussion a report that analyses the protection situation of IDPs in Azerbaijan. The report has been produced by UNHCR in consultation with Government authorities. The results of a Participatory Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming (AGDM) assessment that has been conducted by UNHCR in cooperation with its implementing partners and government representatives in November and December 2009, will also be presented.

The event will bring together representatives from governmental authorities, diplomatic missions, international organisations, NGOs and IDP representatives with an aim to formulate recommendations and conclusions, which will contribute to supporting the Government of Azerbaijan’s efforts to improve the situation of IDPs.

The workshop will be opened with remarks by Mr. Ali Hasanov, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, and Mr. Arun Sala-Ngarm, UNHCR Representative in Azerbaijan.
