“A/H1N1 cases were identified in 211 countries, overseas territories or communities claiming more than 15, 000 lives so far," Azerbaijani Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev said at a news conference on Feb. 19.
"Some 14 swine flu cases were identified in Azerbaijan, but there were no fatal consequences and all infected people recovered," the minister said.
He said 172,000 doses of vaccines delivered to Azerbaijan by the World Health Organization (WHO) were inoculated to medical and customs workers, as well as border servicemen, pregnant women, people who suffer from chronic disease of breathing passages.
About 80 percent of vaccination has already been conducted, he said.
The minister said there were no complications in swine flu vaccination process.
"There were various talks about the A/H1N1 vaccines. European Regional Bureau of the World Health Organization unites 53 countries. Nine countries, including Azerbaijan has joined the permanent committee of the Bureau. It is difficult to give exact information about the effect of vaccines because there were no reports of complications in the countries who first started inoculation. There was no case of complications during the vaccination in Azerbaijan, too," the minister noted.
