Despite the fact that China has reported third case of death from pneumonic plague, the danger does not threaten Azerbaijani citizens, Azerbaijani Plague Center Deputy Director Shair Gurbanov said.

He said, there is no threat of emergence and spread of plague in Azerbaijan.
“There are natural sources of plague in our country which are under our constant supervision. The essence of this work is to catch rodents. If the number of rodents reaches dangerous point, we catch them,” he said.
As to form of plague, Gurbanov noted that the disease has bubonic and pneumonic forms.
“Bubonic plague is not transmitted from person to person, but if imoperly treated, it becomes the pneumonic form. In this form of plague risk of death is high while bubonic form can be treated,” Gurbanov said.
