The number of crimes registered in January-June this year in Azerbaijan has exceeded the figure of the same period of last year by 7.5%, First Deputy Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov said.

“However, the increase occurred only at the expense of less serious crimes which do not represent public danger,” Eyvazov said.
He said the number of serious crimes, compared with previous years has not changed.
“Murder facts decreased by 9.19%, crime - 23% and extortion by threat – 18.2%,” the deputy minister said adding that “during this period cases of hostage taking were not registered.”
He also said 85% of crimes were solved and serious crimes were solved by 81.8%.
In turn, Interior Minister Ramil Usubov said positive results achieved in previous years in the field of public safety were maintained in the first half of this year as well.
“During this period the tasks facing the internal affairs agencies regarding prevention, detection of crimes and other offenses, the restoration of the rights of victims and public safety were implemented with success,” the minister said.
