Majority of Azerbaijani couples prefer to register marriage in September and April, Baku Nasimi district civilian registrar's deputy head Elmira Khalilova said.

The number of those who wish to marry in summer is lower than in spring and autumn, she said.
“Most couples prefer September and April. The most undesirable month is February.”
“Last months we registered 199 couples. Two to six couples apply to us per day,” Khalilova said.
Under Azerbaijani legislation, young couples who want to start a family must go through all the stages of registration. When submitting documents civilian registrar's workers inquire whether they were married before. If they were married before, they must provide a certificate of divorce. If previously they were not married, it is stated in the declaration in a form of a special questionnaire. The day of registration begins after necessary checks, she said.
All couples who submit documents to the registry office are given a month to think over their decision again before signing up. This is done to ensure that young people thought their decision, she added.
The minimum age for marriage for women is 17 years and for men - 18 years.
But sometimes we have to reduce the waiting period. This is possible if there are children, pregnant mothers and urgent departure. A month of waiting is not granted only if the couple is more than 50. According to the law, the marriage of such couples are registered on the same day, she said.
