Azerbaijani population census covers over 8.8 million people: state committee head

According to preliminary data, the Azerbaijani population census which began on April 13 covered 8.82 million people, State Statistical Committee Head Arif Valiyev said at a news conference on April 24.
"This data is exact, because we have not yet received results from several foreign points," Valiyev said.

The Azerbaijani population numbers 8.753 million people, including 49 percent of men and 51 percent of women as for April 1 2009, the state statistical committee reported. This figure is by 0.3 percent more than the index in early April of 2008.
