Ali Kerimli appeals to European Court of Human Rights due to the non-issuance of foreign passport to him

23 October 2008 [16:29] - TODAY.AZ
Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Ali Kerimli intends to file a claim to the European Court of Human Rights due to the non-issuance of a foreign passport to him, said party leader Ali Kerimli.
He noted that he has already passed all instances in Azerbaijan for filing a claim to the European Court.

"Last time my claim was considered in the Appellate Court, where I was told that I will not be able to appeal to local instances any more. My claim was considered in five instances in Azerbaijan. Now I have a right to appeal to the European Court. Currently my claim is being prepared and it will soon be submitted to the European Court", noted he.

It should be reminded that the term of Ali Kerimli's foreign passport expired in summer of 2006. Yet the law enforcement bodies do not issue a foreign passport to Kerimli due to a criminal proceeding, instituted against him on September 10 of 1994. Kerimli was charged with storing two anti-tank grenades.

Later the proceeding was suspended. Since that time the party leader received foreign passports twice in 1996-2001 and in 2001-2006 and elected a Milli Medjlis deputy.
