Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology draws conclusions of the month of "Clean air"

The month of "Clean air" was held in August of 2008 in Baku, Ganja, Sumgayit, Shirvan, Mingechevir, Lenkoran, Guba, Sheki, Ismayilli, Zagatala and other large settlements of Azerbaijan, reported the press service for the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.

The aim of the month is to strengthen control over the air pollution by vehicles.

In line with the information, on the basis of the ratified plan of actions, local structures of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and State Road Police held raid inspections of cars at the stationary posts, transport enterprises and on the highways.

"Inspections were held in Baku at 35 transport enterprises. 123 out of 817 cars burst polluted substances more than the established norm into the air.

On the basis of inspections, claims in the amount of AZN 1,150 have been filed against 23 enterprises. These enterprises were imposed a final of a total of AZN 5,780 for emission of contaminators into the air. Fines in the total amount of AZN 7,500 have been imposed due to the permission to operate transport means, polluting the air", said sources.

During the raids in Baku it was revealed that 1,744 out of 3,850 cars, which underwent inspections, emit excessive volumes of contaminators into the air.

Administrative measures have been applied to the drivers of these cars by the road police officers.

Emission of hazardous substances was revealed in 191 cars, inspected in Lenkoran, Astara, Masally, Jalilabad, Lerik, Bilesuvar and Yardimli, due to which the road police officers applied administrative measures against the drivers.

Of 296 cars, inspected in Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz and Shamkir, emission of wastes to the atmosphere was higher than the norm in 153 cars. Of 41 transport means at the inspected 3 transport enterprises in Shirvan, Sabirabad, Saatli, Hajigabul, Salyan and Neftchala emission of contaminators was higher than the norm in 10.
