Court holds preliminary hearing on case of Azerbaijani boxer Vuqar Alekperov, accused of blackmail

According to Day.Az, the hearing is presided by judge Alovsat Abbasov.

In line with the materials of the сase, on May 16 of 2008, Vuqar Alekperov used force against founder of Inshaatchi-E company Kenan Quliyev, taking his Toyota as a pledge and demanded to give him $10,000.

The officials of the main department of combat with organized crime under the Interior Ministry detained Alekperov when Quliyev was handing him $10,000. The car returned to the victim. The sportsman is accused under article 182.3.2 (blackmail) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the hearing, Alekperov's defender Parviz Alekperov petitioned for changing the preventive measure in a form of arrest, but the court discussed the petition. The court hearing is scheduled for September 9.
