Azerbaijani boxer, tortured by police, may be recruited to army

07 July 2008 [17:17] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani boxer Roman Amanov, who has recently faced charges of blackmail and racket, can be recruited to army, said head coach of the Azerbaijani combined team Nariman Abdullayev.
I am now with a team in Masalli. Amanov is absent here as he is settling the problems with the army service - he and several other boxers are recruited for army service", said the head coach.

It should be reminded that on May 16 of this year Roman Amanov together with bronze prize winner of Olympic games Vuqar Alekperov were detained by the law enforcement bodies of the country and according to Amanov were subjected to brutal tortures and beating, about which the boxer, informed local mass medias, following his odd release.

However, in several days following the release Amanov, disavowed his words, after the press service for the Interior Ministry accused him of telling a lie.

It should be noted that Vuqar Alekperov is still under arrest awaiting for the court verdict.
