Beaches of Shuvelyan, Mardakan, Shikhovo, Qaradagh settlements and Sumgayit seashore banned for swimming

Deputy general director on sanitarian-hygienic issues of the Republican Center of hygiene and epidemiology Vaqif Abdullayev told Echo that the results of the monitoring of the beaches of Baku, Sumgayit and Absheron revealed pollution of these areas, therefore, swimming there is prohibited.

"We have finished the monitoring of all beaches of Baku, Sumgayit and Absheron, except for Novkhany and Zaqulba. This year we hold the work in cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. By results of the researches, the ban is prolonged on the beaches of Shuvelyan, Mardakan, Shikhov and Sahil, imposed by deputy head sanitarian doctor of the country. The decision was passed due to the extensive pollution of these areas with waste waters. As the repair works of cleaning facilities have not been completed in Shuvelyan-Mardakan, the waste waters flow to the beach sections, therefore swimming will not be allowed there", noted he.

At the same time, the area from Jorat to Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev (territory of Sumgayit) is also recognized not suitable for swimming. A decision has also been passed on these territories and it is upheld.

The remaining beaches are normal, it is only left to finish monitoring in Zaqulba and Novkhany, said Abdullayev. "Due to weather conditions, we are not able to finish them, as it is impossible to go into the sea, to make analysis. As soon as weather improves, we will complete the monitoring and try to inform the population about the state of beaches in a short period of time".

Upon completion of the monitoring the republican center will inform the Baku mayor's office and police to take measures to prevent swimming in the prohibited beaches.

In line with the researches of the Azerbaijan's Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry on the coastline area Pirshaghi-Pirallakhi in January-May of 2008, such areas as a territory, close to Mayak resort place: Dubendi behind the military unit: Dubendi terminal, territory of Dubendi gardens (fixing of weak pollution sometimes is connected with increased speed of wind); territory of Severnaya hydroelectric power station (fixing of weak pollution sometimes is connected with increased speed of wind); Mardakan coast line, territory of the resort center Marina beach; territory of the Cardiology sanatorium Bilge; territory of the coast line Binge, Amburan beach are considered normal in microbiological sense.The observations in the Mardakan coast line (territory of Gyzyl Gumm resort center) fixed weak pollution in the last week of May. Owing to the module type cleaning facility in the direction of "Ali Ayaghy" temple of Buzovni settlement, only a week pollution was once recorded through five months of this year. This occurred on May 24 of 2008. Causes are wind and pollution from another direction. The number of e-colis om Gyzylnorukh and Shorgel areas in Pirshaghi coast line has recently met the norm, The area of Nardaran coast line is also being brought to the norm. Stating the improvement of the situation, the Ministry binds it to launching of installed module type cleaning facilities.
