The refugee status was granted to Azerbaijani citizen Rovshan Janiyev (Rovshan Lankaranski) in line with Ukrainian legislation, said chairman of the Ukraine state commission for nationalities and religions Alexander Sagan during a press conference.

He explained that the decision to grant refugee status to Janiyev was adopted based on the proofs that he is pursued in Azerbaijan for belonging to a certain social group.
Nikolai Yerukh, chief of department for refugees and refuge of the state committee for nationalities and religions, explained to reporters that the point is bloody revenge. At the same time the leaders state that no warnings had been received from the prosecutor general's office or ministry of internal affairs by the moment of adoption of a decision to grant the status to the aforementioned person.
Head of the state committee for nationalities and religions said that the fact that this citizen is wanted by the international police is not an obstacle for granting the refugee status to him under the Ukrainian law.
Only a person, convicted by a court of a third country for a crime can be rejected the status, provided that his actions are also considered a crime under the Ukrainian legislation.
The committee also announced the pressure from the side of Gennady Moscal, who states that granting a status of a refugee is illegal. The committee representatives consider such statements to be groundless.
"First-the person has been the chairman of the state committee for national migration and did not understand what he was dealing with and the second version is that this man does it on purpose to discredit the administration of the committee. I think the second variant is more likely", said Yerukh.
The committee also proposes that Moscal's aim is to re-subordinate the state committee of nationalities and religions and says he does not intend to appeal to the court on this issue.
