President of Azerbaijan Academy of Science: "Science development requires finances on the level of 2% of the GDP, while our indicator is only 0.2%"

The due announcement was made by President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science Mahmud Kerimov.

"We were given six months and through this time we should prepare the due document on reforms. The document should fix new mechanisms of science financing. We have proposed to apply point financing, which implies financing of definite scientific projects", said Kerimov.

At the same time he noted that according to researches, the science development requires financing at a level of at least 2% of the country's GDP.

"In Azerbaijan this indicator makes up 0.2% of the GDP. This is not enough for development or the preservation of science on the same level. I hope that following the development of the concept, the science financing rate will increase", Kerimov noted.
