Congress of World Azerbaijanis holds session in Brussels

Vagif Sultanly, member of the Board of Directors, told APA that the session was attended by 12 members of the Board of the Congress of World Azerbaijanis.

The session participation discussed issues connected with the planned unification of the Congress of the Azerbaijanis of democratic world and Congress of World Azerbaijanis. An agreement on the creation of a Steering Committee headed by chairman of the Congress of World Azerbaijanis Gulamrza Sebri Tebrizi was achieved for the preparations to the summit.

Sultanly announced that the session participants decided to hold the summit in late July. He regarded the fact that a small group within the Congress of World Azerbaijanis speaks against this Union as natural.

"In December of 2007 both structures signed an agreement on cooperation. The agreement fixes the conduction of the summit of unification. The issue has been discussed in the Board and the majority voted for the unification. Protests will not be accepted any more. The activity of former chairman of the Congress of World Azerbaijanis Javad Derekhti in the Board has been frozen", he announced.

V.Sultanly noted that these people tried to hinder the summit on behalf of the Congress of World Azerbaijanis" "We appealed to embassies and press to consider this step illegal".

According to him, the session participants also discussed the recent detainment of general Veki Kichik, member of the Board of the Congress of World Azerbaijanis, by the law enforcement bodies of Turkey.

"We are waiting for the court decision and consider that Veli Kichik is among those who are of great importance for the Turkish World. We are not planning any mass protect actions against his imprisonment".
