Ayna newspaper suspends daily edition

02 February 2008 [11:32] - TODAY.AZ
Ayna newspaper suspended its daily edition as from today, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Elchin Shikhli told APA.

The newspaper will issue weekly editions afterwards.

Editor-in-chief linked this step with financial difficulties which the media outlet faces. He said that the advertisement market weakened, profits were reduced, and on contrary other expenses rose.

“If a copy of the newspaper costs 18 kopecks, 17 of it are spent to printing. Azerbaijani readers do not want to read main news in their native language. It is not yet known how long this situation will last. The newspaper will be released once a week until we improve our financial situation,” he said.

Shikhli noted that the Russian-language Zerkalo newspaper settles its problems itself.

“Ayna newspaper has previously released under Zerkalo's assistance,” he said.
