Vatican state secretary to visit Baku

The state secretary of Vatican Tarcizio Bertone will visit Baku in March, as reported by ambassador of Azerbaijan to Switzerland and Vatican Elchin Amirbekov, who learned about the visit during his short meeting with Roman Pope Benedict 16.

Notably, the meeting with the head of the Catholic Church took place in the framework of the annual receipt of ambassadors, accredited under the sacred altar.

"The short meeting with Roman pope took place during the receipt. I communicated him the New Year congratulations of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and noted that the bilateral relations are on the stage of development. I reminded him of Azerbaijani President's invitation to visit our country. Benedict 16 noted that the state secretary of Vatican will visit Azerbaijan in March", E.Amirbekov said.

It should be noted that in the framework of the visit, T.Bertoni will meet with the religious leaders of Azerbaijan and take place in the official opening of the Catholic church in Baku.
