Institute for Reporter Freedom and Safety appeals to Ilham Aliyev with request to pardon all imprisoned reporters

Institute for Reporter Freedom and Safety has appealed to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with a request to pardon all convicted reporters, as reported from the institute for Reporter Freedom and Safety.

The letter, sent to the head of state says that the situation with the freedom of speech has deteriorated in the country.

"Nearly 100 reporters were beaten and abused and two reporters were killed within the said period. 20 reporters were imprisoned. Currently 9 reporters are in jail-Sakit Zahidov, Samir Sagatoglu, Rafiq Tagi, Faramaz Allahverdiyev, Rovshan Kabirli, Yashar Agazade, Eynulla Fatullayev, Ganimat Zahid and Mushvig Guseynov", the letter says.

According to the letter, the aforementioned reporters were imprisoned by political orders of Azerbaijani government. It is also noted that our country occupied the fifth place in the world by the number of convicted reporters.
