The Catholic Church in Baku is getting ready for Christmas Eve-the day before Christmas.
The due information was provided by the representative of the Roman Catholic Church in Azerbaijan Jan Chapla.
He said the literature and musical evening on Christmas will be held on the Chistmas Eve, December 24. The public worship will take place at 10:00 p.m. of the same day in Russian and at 12:00 p.m. in English.
The public worships will continue on Christmas, December 25, as well. This holiday has five pre-holidays (from December 20 until December 24) and six post-holidays. A special fast, called the eve, is peculiar of the night or the day of the Christmas Eve (December 24), as honey-soaked grains are eated on the said day.
Traditionally, the fast ends with the first evening star, emerging in the sky. Old Testament prophesies and events, connected with Christmas Holiday, are recalled on the night of the Chistmas Eve. The public worships of Christmas are practiced thrice a day: at midnight, at sunrise and in the afternoon.
It should be reminded that the Catholic community of Azerbaijan accounts for nearly 250 people.
