Population of Azerbaijan making up 8,621,000 people

The statement was made by the chairman of the state statistical committee Arif Veliyev during a press conference today.

He said the rise equals 1.1% as compared to 2006.

According to him, 138,200 infants were born and 48,800 people died within 11 months of 2006.

Through the reported period 1800 people moved to Azerbaijan for permanent living and 2800 people left the country.

The number of marriages totaled 72,600 against 7,700 divorces.

"The number of divorces remains the same as compared to 2006, while the number of marriages have increased", he said.
