High-ranking Justice Ministry officers tried in Appeals Court

Court hearing on appeal of former deputy chief of the Department of Implementation of Court Decisions of Justice Ministry Gulmemmed Mammadov, former chief of trade base Javanshir Jabbarov and five more former officers was started today in Court of Appeals, the court told.

Jabbarov, Mammadov, Rauf Jafarov, Elman Mammadov, Gabil Mustafayev, Islam Pashayev and Senuber Alekberov filed an appeal against the decision of Court of Grave Crimes. Their appeals were considered and witnesses gave testimonies. Court hearing has been fixed to May 31.

The court sentenced Jabbarov to 12 years, Mammadov, Jafarov, Elman Mammadov 8 years and Mustafayev to 3 years in jail.

Along with the officers of Penitentiary Service chiefs of the companies providing jails with foodstuff and other goods were also held accountable.

According to the indictment, the gang misappropriated AZN16bn state property within five years, APA reports.

The defendants faced charges under articles 179.3.1 (embezzlement), 308.2 (abuse of power), 309 (exceeding power), 320 (falsifying, selling or using official documents, state awards, seals, stamps, blanks) of the Criminal Code.
