Prosecutor to demand sentencing Aydin Ibrahimov for stealing art works

Trial on case of Aydin Ibrahimov, accused of stealing art works from State Art Museum named after Rustem Mustafayev finished at Court of Grave Crimes.

Prosecutor will address the court on May 23. According to the indictment Ibrahimov, his wife Natavan Aleskerova and their acquaintances Masatsuga Koga, Yakov Ifrahimov, Simon Mishiyev stole art works from State Art Museum and sold them abroad.

They stole 274 art works cost $10.250.000 from State Art Museum from 1993 till 1995. The art works were first taken to Turkey in 19095 and then to New York.

Aleskerova and Masatuga Koga were detained by the US Customs Service trying to sell the valuable art works. Ibrahimov could escape.

Besides, Ibrahimov also misappropriated AZN182mln when he was president of Neftchi football club. He left the US for Azerbaijan in September, 2006 this year and gave in.

Ibrahimov faced charges under articles 177 (robbery), 194 (buying or selling illegal property) and 206 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code. APA
