15 AIDS carriers registered in south region of Azerbaijan during first quarter

Lenkeran Hygienic and Epidemiology center official Remiali Ibishov told APA's south bureau that the first AIDS carrier was found in 1999 in Lenkeran.

In 2001 the number of the AIDS carriers was 26 in Lenkeran, 11 in Masalli, but in 2006 this indicator reached to 83 in Lenkeran, 30 in Masalli, 18 in Jalilabad, 10 in Astara, 4 in Lerik and Yardimli regions. 10 of them died within this period. During the first quarter 15 AIDS carriers have been registered in the center, 11 of them are the residents of Lenkeran, others from Astara and Masalli.

The specialist noted that most of the contractors are drug addicts, their family members and also the migrants.
