18 April 2007 [10:49] - TODAY.AZ
Shutting down of Russian TV broadcasting in Azerbaijan should not be regarded as my caprices, said Nushiravan Mahharamli, head of National Television and Radio Council (NTRC).

Commenting on the MP Mikhail Zabelin's speech that accused Nushiravan Maharramli saying "Azerbaijan's Russian language speaking people should not suffer from Nushiravan Mahharamli's caprices" the chief of National Television and Radio Council emphasized he pursues no goals regarding Russia.

"I have normal attitude towards Russia. We just want to act according to the experience accepted in the world. With the improvement of cable TV the whole population of Azerbaijan could be able to watch Russian TVs. We take necessary steps to develop cable television. We will license a number of cable televisions. Then people will be able to watch not 1-2 but about 10 Russia TV channels."

According to decision accepted by NTRC, the broadcasting of Russian TVs in Azerbaijan are to be shut down from July 10. NTRC said if any intergovernmental agreement signed the broadcasting will go on. APA
