National Sciences Academy sends expedition to Guba

He said the burial place of victims of the genocide committed by Armenians in Guba region of Azerbaijan is not archeological monument.

So, it is to be investigated both by scientific expedition and special state commission. The final decision should be made by state commission of doctor, biologists, medical experts, historians and archaeologists.

Maisa Rahimova also commented on financial problems for expedition.

"Undoubtedly to carry out large-scale archaeological excavations is out of capabilities of any institute. But we can finance any expedition."

The members of scientific expeditions in Guba Asgar Aliyev and Gahraman Aghaev are to return to Baku tomorrow.

The facts on people burial places in Guba should be specified and approved both by he state and science, the chairman of the National Science Academy's History Institute's department for "Deportation and genocide History of Azerbaijanis" Israfil Mammadov told.

He said it is notorious fact that Armenians committed genocide in Guba, APA reports.

"It is historical fact that Armenians massacred 6,000 civilians and destructed 122 villages. Azerbaijan President issued 4 decrees on the publicizing of genocide facts," he stressed.

Head of President Office's socio-political department Ali Hasanov told that Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is to apply President Office's corresponding department according to the procedures.

"After the application and scientific research next steps can be taken. After those researches, government will do its share of work."
