Baku Catholic Church's head Yan Chapla told APA that the explosive material thrown inside the church through the window caused the fire.
The church's chief said it was the first case in his five-year life in Azerbaijan. "Criminals live in every country. So, we would not like to exaggerate the incident. It is an example of simple ruffianism," he underlined.
Yan Chapla hopes the opening of the church will take place on April 26 as expected. He said the State Committee for Religious Communities and Polish Embassy to Azerbaijan have reacted to the incident.
He also added that as the church does not work it is not guarded so well.
"That is why to burn the church was not difficult."
