Azerbaijan to apply Georgia for ancient manuscript of "Koroghlu"

09 April 2007 [22:14] - TODAY.AZ
"From November 11 to 15 in 2004 we visited Tbilisi and exchanged the duplicates of three Georgian manuscripts for the manuscript copies of Azerbaijan poet Musahib Ganjavi."

"These were the texts of Georgian religious books. We have no other Georgian manuscripts except those we exchanged," director of the Manuscripts Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mammad Adilov told.

He said there is no practice of exchanging authentic manuscripts in the world. The copies of manuscripts are exchanged at best, APA reports.

"We are ready to negotiate with our Georgian counter-parts. If it is true that Georgians found the old text of "Koroghlu" epos, we are ready to exchange it with any duplicate of eastern manuscript."

He also said they will send a letter to Georgian Manuscripts Institute on this issue.

Late scientist Dilara Aliyeva worked in Georgian Manuscripts Institute for many years and found the old manuscripts of "Koroghlu" epos. The duplicates of the found manuscripts were printed. Now Azerbaijan scientists are researching whether manuscript found in Tbilisi is authentic.

The deputy director of Georgia Manuscript Institute Georgiy Kalandia told the ANS that the old manuscript of "Koroghlu" epos was found in Georgia and if Azerbaijan applies, they will give it to Azerbaijan.
