20 February 2007 [22:41] - TODAY.AZ
Little improvement is observed in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia concerning the issue of missing persons compared to the early 1990s, the report drawn up by Leo Platvoet, PACE rapporteur on missing persons in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia reads.

The report says that in general 7,643 persons have been missing in the region during the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. 4,604 of them are Azerbaijanis and 947 are Armenians. 1,763 Georgians and 197 Abkhazians have been missing during the Abkhazia conflict and 10 Georgians and 122 Osetins during the South Ossetia conflict. The report states there is some information that some missing people of the three countries are alive.

This is not political but a humanitarian issue. The parties should approach the issue from this point, the report runs.

Leo Platvoet called on these countries to close cooperation on the issue of missing persons, APA reports.
