Strong flood hits Azerbaijani southern region

Heavy rain on the night from February 17 to 18 caused serious damages in Azerbaijani region of Astara.

Strong flood destroyed the 12m-iron bridge that connects Vagu and Siyeki villages and limited connection of 15 settlements with the center of the region.

The flood also destroyed stone fence of secondary school in Tengerud village and washed the yards of over 10 houses in Kijebe village.

Local residents say they have not seen such a strong flood in the past 10 years.

Administrative officials of the region, members of the commission for emergency situations, relevant departments and organizations have arrived to the site in connection with the strong flood.

As the result of the measures taken by the officers of Transport Ministry, the traffic on the bridge was restored at 19.00.

The region officials and the chief of the commission for emergency situations Mezaim Huseynov noted that the reconstruction of the bridge will be continued today too, APA reports.
